  • Over the week-end, he went to Ohio to go door-to-door to talk to voters in Ohio. He always leads by examples. There are thousands of Obama canvassers throughout the country and it was a great moment for them when they saw pictures of Barack doing what he has asked them to do. That's a leader people are willing to follow.

    That's what a LEADER does.

If there's any question, then he just flat out goes out and SHOWS people what he wants done.

I wasn't an Obama partisan three months ago. But I'm sure as hell turning into one now.

  • President Bush has been filmed with the beautiful Carla Bruni and her husband President Nichlos Sarkosy in Paris and celebrating the Queens birthday in England while the mid west has suffered a 500 year flood. With this Katrina size disaster in the heart land. Has he cut his trip short? No. If the Republicans in office cared about the people in the mid west they would have urged him to come home. He's living it up like royalty while the mid west is under water. This is "King George the W's Let Them Eat Cake Farewell Tour".

  • A man should be judged by his accomplishments and actions, not by who his parents were...Senator Obama has shown us his soul in helping the Iowa flood victims. How can any one speak against him? I am old white woman who is donating to Obama's campaign and praying he is elected as he is truly the uniter...that G.W. only pretended to be. Obama 08

  • Obama, I truly admire you for rolling up your sleeves and jumping right in to volunteer for the people in Quincy. You didn't have to do it, but you did and that says a lot about you and your character. You are truly what America need a president that practice what he preaches. You saw a need for the people and you were right there to help out. You inspired a lot of people by doing your civic duty. You could have very well went out and spoke to people to ask for volunteers, but you lead by example. We will now have a hands on president that really care about people. Thank God! Obama 08!!

  • I have such admiration for this man, Barack Obama. Not since JFK and RFK have I had the admiration for anyone in a leadership position in the U.S. that I have for Senator Obama.

As some have commented before me, he could have just spoken to people briefly, said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with....", and gone on about his day. But instead he led by example, as one commenter said.

I'm sure that his presence shoulder-to-shoulder with other volunteers was a morale booster to the courageous people in the midwest flood zone who must be weary and anxious.

    God bless all of you.

  • Matt, Michael, Abdoulaye, Bratnicious:

Thank you for your comments, and for showing your support for Obama and Quincy. I helped fill sandbags today and was amazed (again) by the power of people. I have experienced several floods - including '93 - and can assure the naysayers that visits from the likes of Obama help energize those affected, those volunteering, and draw media attention which in turn adds to the likelihood of aid and more help.

Quincy, and the surrounding region, is full of great people who work hard. When I shook Obama's hand I thanked him, just as I would like to thank all those helping. We will prevail for many reasons, one of them being that we come together and get things done without whining and without expectations of reward. I salute Obama for actually filling quite a few sandbags, and I encourage him to visit Quincy again.

  • Michael, I too live in Quincy. While I have always been an Obama supporter and voted for him on primary day, this only reinforces my belief in him to provide leadership and change to America. To those that consider him self-serving, he could have just spoke at the civic center (where we did the sandbagging) as McCain would have done, and would have been able to highlight the need for volunteers nearly as well. Instead he chose to lead by example. I commend him for that. We are not sandbagging to protect OUR homes(Quincy is on a bluff well above the Mississippi), but to help other area levees as well as our water treatment plant. We have a few factories near the riverfront, and a few local businesses, but the damage will be more severe in outlying areas should the levees break. We have a ton of farmland in low lying areas, and we are one of the biggest corn producing areas in the world. Watch the corn prices if even a couple of levees break and not a few, but tens of thousands of acres are flooded. Not to mention the untreated sewage that would flow downstream from a flooded water treatment plant. Hats off to Obama for visiting a small community of 40000 that is expected to see the worst of the flooding. And anyone else that can help, please volunteer, your efforts will be appreciated.

I live in the city Obama visited Saturday. You need to tell that to the hundreds and hundreds of volunteers how are helping fill sandbags. If there were an easier way, I think we'd find it instead of busting our hump 18 hours a day.

Obama's visit really boost the morale of everyone working so hard to save our community.

  • Obama you are truly the one president America and the world had been waiting for. A president who don't just sit in an airplane and fly over a devastated city as Katrina (Bush). You help. I love u and i will do anything to get you elected or i leave this country forever.

  • Now THAT is inspiring. Desperation would be trying to deny the aid this man has brought to this dire situation with his personal attention, and call for volunteers.

    Heartwarming!

  • Dear Barack, I hated to see you filling sandbags by hand. That's desperation, not inspiration. It shows your good faith. But, there are machines to do that. Fly them in. Better yet, get ahead of the global warming problem. Work smart, not hard. Step up to the executive level. You can do it. Your Web image shows good. God's speed.

  • Finally we are going to get an hands on president.
Sen. Obama will not only be a great Commander in chief , but as they say.
    " A great indian. "
With McCain , we would get the left over criminals from George Bush , Rove & Cheney + Fundraisers who support rape & rapists.
So America please say no to a woman , who stole donated life saving Antibiotics from sick children , sold them to feed her drug addiction.
but most of all say No to her Johm McCain who after deserting his disabled first wife and 3 children , elevated Cindy from mistress to wife , referred to her as " A CU-T."
